Tricia D. Goostree
Founder and Attorney
By the age of 10, Goostree Law Group founder and managing partner Tricia D. Goostree had decided to be a lawyer. In college, her selection to the mock trial program at Eastern Illinois University sparked a true appreciation for the court and litigation. Following her acceptance at the John Marshall Law School in Chicago on the Dean's Scholarship, she won the Dean Fred F. Herzog Moot Court Competition largely due to her refined writing abilities. She earned a scholarship from the Moot Court Executive Board and competed in numerous competitions throughout her time in law school.
While at John Marshall, Tricia interned with the division of consumer fraud at the State Attorney General's office and was Supreme Court Rule 711 clerk for the Chicago Legal Clinic. During her time at the Clinic, she assisted and advised many clients in family law matters, including divorce cases, domestic violence protective orders, and the enforcement of child support in divorce decrees. This gave her a chance to learn and appreciate various clients' needs, while frequently working in the domestic relations division of the Circuit Court of Cook County. She practiced around Cook County for two years, then extended to DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, and Kendall counties. In all locations, she quickly earned the respect of opposing counsel and judges.
Starting in 2002, Tricia shifted her practice to focus entirely on domestic relations and family law cases. These involve complex divorces, spousal maintenance issues, and allocation of parental responsibilities (custody) disputes, including appeals. From the beginning of Tricia's career to present day, she has strived to provide legal representation for her clients rooted in compassion and integrity, with an impassioned approach during contentious litigation and settlement negotiations. She thoroughly enjoys the court and thrives when faced with the most challenging legal obstacles and difficult opponents. While Tricia did not grow up in the big city, she pursued her dream of becoming a lawyer in the Chicago area, and she relates to people from every conceivable walk of life, no matter what their family or legal issues might be.
Along with her professional legal career, Tricia serves the local community in various ways, including as a member of the Prairie State Legal Services board of directors, a volunteer with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, provider of legal services pro bono for individuals and families, and high school mock trial coordinator for the Kane County Bar Association & Foundation. She also spent time as Kane County Bar Association admissions and membership committee chairperson and member of its public relations committee. She also has delivered presentations and lectures at numerous legal continuing education symposiums.
When not serving her clients or the community, Tricia is an admitted baseball fanatic and runner who relishes travel time with her husband.
